Two containers of firearms in the Port of Maputo
The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) confirmed the presence of two containers of firearms on the premises of the Port of Maputo, as it was being propagated by the media in the capital. PRM also explained that those containers were in transit to neighboring Swaziland, in an operation authorized by the Mozambican authorities and covered by a specific agreement signed between the Governments of Mozambique and that African Kingdom. However, the Police did not confirm the presence of drugs inside the containers. (Radio Moçambique)

Parliament: 20 issues on the agenda
The Standing Committee of the Parliament (CPAR) approved yesterday the 20 points that should form the agenda of the Third Ordinary Session of the legislature to be held in Maputo from 9 th March to 12th May. According to its spokesperson, Mateus Katupha, those twenty points approved yesterday have the emphasis on the Annual Statement of the Attorney General's Office on the State General Justice in the country; questions to the Government, Informing of the Government on the implementation of its Five Year Program, approved last year by the Parliament. In this section we also list the information on the Review of the Electoral Law, the report on the preparations for the debate on the Revision of the Constitution and the Penal Code and also the presentation of the General State Account for the year 2009. CMM Launches Phase II PROMAPUTO
Today, the Municipal Council of Maputo (CMM) will launch the phase II of the Municipal Development Program (PROMAPUTO) which is aimed to strengthen the internal capacity of CMCM management, maintenance and development of quality services to the citizen. At this stage, CMM intends to expand the level of investment in infrastructure and provision of priority municipal services, such as solid waste management, improvement and expansion of roads, urban planning, management of funeral services, transportation, traffic and markets. British Ncondezi Coal plans to start coal mining in Mozambique in the second half of 2014
 The British Ncondezi Coal should start coal mining in two of four awards at its disposal in Mozambique in the second half of 2014, as said the press officer of the company. Nigel Walls said that an economic feasibility study will be completed in July next year.  The company is currently conducting test holes to ascertain the quality of existing coal concessions. "If the feasibility study is completed by the project and if we get funding then we should start mining coal in the second half of 2014," added Walls. The Ncondezi Coal has four concessions in Tete province, the region where Brazilian “Vale”, the world's largest exporter of iron ore, and Australia's Riversdale Mining are operating.(Macuahub)

State cuts budget of the UP- Quelimane
The Pedagogic University (UP) in Quelimane city developed a plan of operation for this academic year. It is estimated 100 million Meticais to bear all expenses of the institution, but only 60 million have been approved. This could lead to a halt of the university’s activities up from July, once the low budget also affects the salaries of teachers. Moreover, according to a source of that institution, the available amount assures wages until next March. After this, there will be no funds for salaries. If the situation prevails, a modification of the normal course of lessons may require. (O País)

Health Sector in Gurué
The Health Center of Gurué, in Zambezia province, is struggling with lack of human resources, which lead to the problem that patients have to wait long hours to be served. Scenario associated to poor delivery of services is a point which was confirmed by the District Director of Health Services and Social Action. It is indeed a problem that is known by the local health authorities who are saying that they need more than 20 nurses, four midwives and two general practitioners, because the few who work there are now overloaded. The Health Center of Gurué records a monthly average of five deaths.(TIM)

PRM killed 13 "criminals" in clashes
Maputo City Police Commander, Jose Weng San, said that during the year 2010, the corporation dismantled 119 gangs of criminals and had been confronted directly to 26 miscreants, of whom 13 were fatally shot by polic. He did not reveal the number of deaths of PRM agents. Following the report, Weng said that during the review period 176 vehicles, 37 firearms, ammunition were recovered and 376 472 foreign citizens had been sent back.(Canal de Moçambi         que)

Human Rights: Lawyers laud but require consistency
The prison policy and promoting respect for human rights are the two areas chosen by the Lawyers Bar of Mozambique (OAM), as the Government has promoted significant advances in respect of the proper administration of justice and improving the rule of law. However, lawyers are seeking more consistency in the gains achieved so far, arguing that if the state must invest substantial financial resources to construct buildings to accommodate the administration of justice institutions to train qualified and competent personnel, or to extend the machinery of justice nationwide. Therefore, OAM says that, if citizens do not trust in the courts, every effort will be in vain.(Jornal Noticias)
