Mozambican bishops warn of the danger of mono-partisanship
The catholic bishops of Mozambique warn of the possibility of the return of the country’s one party system. D. Lucio Muandula, President of the Episcopal Conference, told reporters that by speaking of the mono-partisanship, the Conference does not express a concern but pointed out that the daily glimpse of the country makes a very strong tendency towards mono-partisanship. In this regard Muandula said, that the situation in Gaza province, where the presence of opposition political parties is almost non-existent, is an example which makes the mono-partisanship something that exists in practice. Bank of Mozambique: Government measures to reduce the cost of living have been inadequate
The measures taken by the Government of Mozambique to mitigate the cost of living are "insufficient" although beneficial to dampen pressure on prices, the Bank of Mozambique said in a statement posted on its website. In the same statement, the Central Bank said the measures "are not sufficient to counteract the rise in prices and seasonal pressure associated with the festive season" but acknowledges that the package of fiscal, monetary and fiscal measures to reduce the cost of life applied in September 2010 proved to be important to absorb the price pressure and to counter the inertia of inflation expectations."
