President of the Republic appoints deputy ministers
President Armando Guebuza, appointed by presidential decrees apart, Francisco Manuel da Conceição Pereira for the post of Deputy Minister of Public Works and Housing and Amelia Tomas Muendane Nakhare for the post of Deputy Minister of Planning and Development. Until his appointment, Francisco Pereira played the role of Chairman of the Board of the Road Fund, while Amelia Muendane Nakhare held the post of National Director of Integration and Statistical Coordination at the National Institute of Statistics (INE).  Parliament adopts methodology to revise the Election Law
The Parliamentary Committee of Public Administration, Local Government and Social Communication adopted yesterday in Maputo the work methodology that will guide the work of harmonization of the proposals for revision of electoral legislation. According to Alfredo Granito, the Chairperson of that working group,  the group decided to start by working around the Electoral Law for the Election of the President and Members of Parliament. In this context, a comparative table type was approved. It contains the articles of the current electoral law, as well as the proposals of the three parliamentary groups – FRELIMO, RENAMO and MDM. Furthermore the extra-parliamentary parties and civil society organizations that submitted proposals to this committee. (Jornal Noticias)

Social reintegration: Demobilized soldiers in a pending situation
This week, a group of demobilized soldiers manifested their worry about the alleged slowness regarding to the process of social reintegration of former RENAMO guerrillas and former soldiers of the extinct Popular Forces for the Liberation of Mozambique (FPLM). This sentiment was expressed by former RENAMO chief negotiator in peace talks, Raul Domingos. He was called by former guerrillas to intervene so that an expeditious procedure can be assured. In the meeting which was maintained with the former number two of RENAMO, the demobilized soldiers acquainted about the reasons why they considered that they have failed in implementing the Protocol on Social Reintegration of former servicemen, in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (AGP). Floods isolate three districts in central Mozambique 
The districts of Mutarara, Tambara and Chemba are isolated and dozens of roads are impassable in the provinces of Tete, Manica and Sofala (central Mozambique), due to heavy rains in the region. Following the increase of river flow in those regions, the three districts are not reachable by land. However, according to Deputy Director-General of the National Institute of Disaster Management, Casimiro Abreu, "The river flows are 'on alert', but the situation is under control, although of the localized flooding, especially in vulnerable areas. The isolation of those districts will not impede us from making assistance, because we have various means to get there”. (Rádio Moçambique)

Beira has features for the occurrence of tsunamis – conclude experts of INAM
Due to its geographical position, scientifically confirmed as being below the level of the sea, the capital of Sofala, Beira, has natural characteristics which make them vulnerable to the occurrence of tsunamis. According to experts at the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM), any activity of geological origin of this phenomenon can cause incalculable damage in that city located on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Three police officers arrested in Nampula
The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), in Nampula, arrested, out of a group of six, three members of the corporation accused of involvement in the recent escape of the 68 asylum seekers from Somalia and Ethiopia, accommodated in Maratane refugee centre, waiting for the screening process for the confirmation of their status. The spokesperson of the provincial command of the PRM, Inacio Dina, explained that they continue with effort to catch three remaining officers of the corporation. In the early hours of last Wednesday they were surprised by the force deployed at the checkpoint of Muahivire police, escorting a truck from the centre of Maratane with 68 illegal immigrants who undertook an escape, as destination the nation's capital, Maputo.
